Am I Really Here?

August 8th, 2009 8:20 A.M. ( Kalk Bay, CT, South Africa)

Today I awoke to a nice calm morning, still dark, with the moon shining, full.
I said goodbye to a friend as she went to work.
I had some coffee and a croissant with blueberry jam.
I watched the ocean waves, and the sun come up.

My inspirational message of the day:
"When going through life, and questioning your purpose, and your niche, look first into yourself. The world may want you to seek wisdom from the external happenings all around you, but the best promise of all is the one that lies deep within the heart. The promise of freedom, of acceptance, and of love. It is there that you will find the most basic and simple answers to your most troubling questions."

Since 2006 I have been praying for the country of South Africa on a continuous basis.
Praying for the people, for the land, for healing...
Praying for people who don't have much to be appreciated and deservedly heard.
And now I am here, in South Africa, and at times, it seems surreal.
I wonder everyday why GOD has brought me here. For what purpose?
Each week I am confronted with a new thought or feeling of what that means to me,
and how I can approach that question.
I kept hearing "Go back to my roots." I thought that meant camp, or writing, or family.
Then it occurred to me...my roots: A BIG HEART.
It doesn't matter what I do, where I go, who I meet, as long as I do it out of love.

It is not easy, for it is a crazy city that I am living in.
Cape Town is home to about 7-8 million, of every walk of life.
Much different than my hometown of Shawano, WI...about 9,000 strong.
I love Cape Town. It is very diverse. And challenging.

This week I find myself getting ready to leave Cape Town to head into Botswana,
to get my VISA extended. I am looking forward to the travels, even if money is tight. Hell, it is always tight. But I know that many cool places and cool people await me this week.
And for that, I am grateful. Stay in touch to find out how the adventure goes.
I know it will not be predictable, for how can you predict a 3 day excursion to a country in which you have never been before?
